Houston in Action is the collective power of people and organizations throughout the Greater Houston area and El Paso coming together to promote non-partisan community leadership and break down systemic barriers to civic participation.

REQUIREMENTS

•    An associate's degree with 2+ years of experience in organizing, capacity building, or training.

•    Fluency in spoken and written English and Spanish is preferred.

•    Professional or volunteer experience in nonprofit organizing, campaigns, or voter engagement.

•    Experience with G-Suite, Microsoft Suite, Salesforce, data collection tools, mapping skills, or project management platforms.

•    Solid planning, organization, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to adapt to change and drive measurable outcomes.

PRIMARY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Houston in Action has a physical office located within the Houston Museum District. Our staff works remotely with responsibilities that include in-person meetings and events. This position is based in El Paso, Texas.

Working from El Paso, TX, you will lead and strengthen the Sembrando Esperanza Coalition in El Paso by collaborating with the Environmental Working Group to provide strategic support, resources, and training that empower member organizations. Specifically, you will be responsible for:

  • Enhancing infrastructure and operational capacity.

  • Developing organizing skills among members.

  • Deepening engagement within the Coalition.

  • Supporting Coalition Members – Assess needs, provide resources, and connect members with support for governance, financial, and data management.

  • Organizing & Training – Plan the 2025 Planning Retreat, facilitate monthly trainings, and develop organizing materials.

  • Community Engagement & Advocacy – Assist members in advancing campaigns while ensuring community voices remain central.

  • Capacity Building – Provide coaching, technical assistance, and stipends to strengthen organizing efforts and Coalition impact.

  • Strategic Coordination & Operations – Recruit and retain members, align efforts with organizational goals, and manage communication, meetings, and resources.
