Houston in Action Responds to Ongoing Mail-In Ballot Issues
HOUSTON, TX – Following the rejection of hundreds of mail-in ballots across Texas, with less than two weeks left to vote by mail in the March primaries, Juan Cardoza-Oquendo, Director of Public Policy at Houston in Action released the following statement:
“In Greater Houston we’ve unfortunately witnessed years of efforts to disparage and silence voters of color. The latest rejection of mail-in ballots is highly concerning and disappointing. Confusing rules about how to vote have devastating impacts on marginalized communities. As we approach the midterms, we ask that Texas leadership take immediate action to resolve the broader issue of mail ballot application rejections, for the sake of our democracy and the voices of the people of Houston and Texas. We applaud Harris County Elections Administrator Isabel Longoria’s office for proactively informing the public about new vote-by-mail rules.
