Over 20 Organizations Send Letter of Requests to Harris County Officials in Response to Election Challenges
Houston, TX – Houston in Action along with over 20 partner organizations penned a letter to the Harris County Commissioners Court regarding the challenges Houston residents faced in the 2022 Primary Elections.
The letter highlights the challenges voters faced in the primary elections this month and calls on the Commissioners Court to expand its investment in the administration of elections and commit to ensuring that the county office of Elections Administration is adequately supported to fulfill its duties including, establishing the proposed Citizen Election Advisory Committee and a voter’s bill of rights that captures the voices of the community in the election process. The letter can be read in its entirety HERE.
Juan Cardoza-Oquenda, director of public policy and election:
“After facing challenges in the Harris County primary election, this community letter demonstrates the collective support for increased attention to the administration of elections, including the proposed Citizen Election Advisory Committee, to ensure that Harris County elections can continue to be fair, free, and accessible.
In the face of the challenges of SB1, Harris County officials must ensure that their systems meet the obstacles so that every person has the opportunity and ability to cast their ballot. We look forward to having an open and collaborative process to make sure our communities’ voices are heard.”
